In order to develop an action plan for Anne Ewers we need to analyze and understand the financial and leadership strengths and weaknesses of the Utah Symphony Organization (USO) and the Utah Opera Company (UOC). In order for the merger to be successful, Anne will need to create some successful strategies for managing each of these concepts. Utah Symphony Strengths The most impressive financial strength that USO has is their endowment. By the end of 2002, their endowment was considered higher than average and they were considered at the top end of a Group II Symphony when compared to other symphonies nationally. As far as leadership goes, Anne has a lot of experience with the Opera. She has helped reduce their debt while increasing the budget. Even the projected contributions is expected to increase by $653,954). She has a reputation of being loyal, enthusiastic and very well capable. For example, she inherited a debt of $450,000 from her predecessor while in Boston. Not only did she retire that debt, but she also created an endowment fund and increased the number of productions from one to three. Overall projections are expected to increase by $374,843. Utah Opera Weaknesses Financially, the revenues for performances has continually declined. Even the projected sales has declined by $294,277. Government grants are 1/3 less that what the symphony gets and is also projected to decrease by $18,440. The UOC was not without their share of leadership weaknesses as well. Leslie Peterson resigned as the Director of Operations at the beginning of the merger proposal. Being the daughter of the founder, Glade Peterson, essentially gave a black eye about the merger from a public perspective. Bereiter and Englemann found that there language skills were ungrammatical, disjointed and incapable for education and incapable for expressing ideas. Flaherty argued that the external factor of the ethnic groups being more likely to live in low quality, substandard council housing also plays a large part on the success levels of ethnic groups in education. This means that they will also be less likely to have good study space, money for health nutritious food and means they are less likely to have revision resources needed for success and item A agrees with this point. Racism in the wider society is also a large external factor which can have a large impact on the ethnic groups in the wider society as this racism can de-motivate people from doing well in education and striving to get the good jobs as they believe only the people who are white ethnicity will get the jobs. CONFLICT AVOIDANCE What is conflict? The dictionary says that it is 1competitive or opposing action of incompatibles; 2to show antagonism of irreconcilability. In other words it’s usually a fight between two people who don’t get along for one reason or another. Causes of conflict: I will speak about what I have experienced. †¢ My first conflict was with someone who used to be a friend. We have known each other a few years. We used to hang out in the halls at school together with a group of other friends and clown on each other and clown on other people who passed by. This somewhat made people think that we were a â€Å"bad group of kids†. We said they also might think that because we were mostly a minority group (Black and Hispanic with one or two white friends with us). None of us were doing much work or any sports in school. I always played sports throughout grade school but because of my grades I wasn’t eligible so I guess I was bored. My mom started telling me to get my grades up so that I could play again because she knew that I needed something to keep me focused on school. So with support from my principle and the football coaches I got my grades up and I became eligible. That was the best feeling; being able to play again. I still kept my friends but it started to get harder to keep up with them, school, football, and then track. My coaches, my principle and my mom told me that I needed to break away from that group and concentrate on my school work if I wanted to keep playing sports. I admit that when I did break away and start hanging out with different guys (football players and track team) I saw that we had more in common. Breaking away started tension with my first group of friends and me. They started saying that I thought that I was too good to hang out with them anymore. One of their moms told me that I was not â€Å"all that†. I even tried to explain to them but that didn’t do any good. All through the school year the tension got worse. I wondered if my mom, or my coaches, or my principle knew this might happen, if they did they never told me. One day this group performed a step at our assembly. Someone in the group messed up and all the students laughed; but my friends and I were singled out by the group and they started to throw things at us. After we left the assembly they confronted us and asked why we were laughing at them. I told them everyone aughed but all that mattered to them is that we laughed. I turned away but one of my friends was still inside arguing with one of them. I went back inside to get my friend and to cool the situation down but it soon got out of hand and a fight started. We never landed any punches because one of the teachers was between us. The teacher said that he told us to break it up; if he did I didnâ₠¬â„¢t hear him. I turned and walked away but one of the other guys in the group ran after me. I heard someone call my name and tell me to look out. I turned just as the guy swung at me. I ducked down and punched him and the fight was on. o Avoidance: 1If I had found a better way to get my work done in school, play sports and hang out with them (because, â€Å"We minorities have to stick together,† one of their moms said to me); maybe the tension would not have been there. 2If I had told the principle or the coaches about the tension; maybe something could have been done (I doubt it because the guys hadn’t done anything). 3If, as my mom said, I had not gone back inside to get my friend I wouldn’t have been in it (but I was trying to keep my friend out of trouble). If I had listened to the teacher when he told us to break it up it might have ended then. 5If I had not defended myself and allowed the guy to punch me and do nothing (then what). †¢ My second conflict was with another guy from this same group. One of them came up to me before my track practice and said, â€Å"I hear you want to fight me. † This is the first time that I had heard of this. I said, â€Å"No, I don’t want to fight you. † It went back and forth like that until he finally said, â€Å"Well, we’re going to fight whether you want to or not. All I could think was, â€Å"This makes no sense! † I did not want any more trouble. I had just come back from court THAT MORNING for the other issue with his buddies. And all I had been told was, â€Å"You do not fight AT SCHOOL. † I knew then that the only way to get him to leave me alone was to fight him. And the only way to do that and not get in trouble was to fight him AWAY FROM SCHOOL (wrong). I never knew that two guys fist fighting was a crime. No guns, no knives, no sticks; just our fists†¦nobody else was involved, just us. Well, I found out that it is against the law, and because we decided at school to fight but went somewhere else it was still a school issue. How were we supposed to know that? I’ve been in school for twelve years and I have never been told this (my mom didn’t know either). The next day I see on the school film that his buddy, that I had defended myself against before was giving him a handshake and then I knew that I had been setup. Now I’m suspended and will have to plead my case to the school district next week; all because I saw no other way out. Avoidance: 1If I had talked to the coaches during track practice, but I really didn’t think anything of it (besides he hadn’t done anything). By the time he came up on me after practice, the coaches were gone. 2If I had just gone home and told my mom what happened (she would have told someone or made me tell someone). 3If I had just let him punch me and do nothing and not defended myself (because we would fight whether I wanted to or not) then I suppose everything would have been okay. Parents, teachers and just adults tell us to walk away, walk away†¦but how do we do that? They tell us to do it but they don’t tell us how. I know the physical part†¦turn around and walk away (tried that, didn’t work), but what about the mental part; the psychological part? You walk away, you’re a punk, weak, sissy, wimp, chump; you tell someone, you’re a snitch, 5/0, scared; you stand up and defend yourself, you’re suspended, expelled, sent to juvenile detention. So what do we do and how do we do it? No matter what caused the fighting the same penalty is used for both involved. I guess the teachers or the schools don’t have time to sit down with the students and find out what the issues are so they just let the courts handle it. Then we’re all made to look like criminals. I know if there are weapons involved then it should be a court issue. My grandma calls it anger†¦well yeah, I’ll get angry at anybody who is going to fight me because they don’t like me, whether I want to or not. It’s called standing up for yourself, or being your brother’s keeper. We get tools in church, the bible. We get tools in school, books and teachers. We get tools at work, safety stuff, training on how to be safe, and training on harassment (my mom job). What tools do we get to help us avoid conflict? We get three words†¦Ã¢â‚¬ just walk away†. Parents, teachers, and just adults ask what happened, but they don’t usually ask why or try to find out why it happened and what needs to be done so that it doesn’t happen again. Suspending, expelling, sending to juvenile detention does not make the tension go away and it does not get to the cause of the problem. I understand that there needs to be punishment, but punishing and still not trying to find out the cause is not helping. If you don’t know what the issue is you won’t prevent it you will just keep reacting to it every time it happens. If no one cares why it happens then the only thing that matters is that the one who gets the upper hand wins, because you’ll both get the same punishment. So in my second conflict I knew that if he came at me another day, in the school hallway, I would be in trouble no matter how, no matter why it happened. My idea to help prevent it: We should get any body that has some type of issue with each other and have them sit together in a room with a mediator (my mom and dad used a mediator when they got divorced). It probably needs to be a parent whose kid is not in the room. Not a teacher, well maybe a teacher that the students like. I think a parent because there would be more respect for a parent and they would probably open up more (maybe). This mediator could ask the questions or just let the two of them talk about how they feel about each other. Once it’s out in the open they can work on the issues. I’m not saying that it would work every time; and I’m not saying that they would come out of there the best of friends but you can offend someone and not even know it until it is too late. This is what I would have done with my ex-friends because I really didn’t know what the issues were between us and I still don’t.

It is a play full of love, magic and dreams. With fascinating characters which range from supernatural fairies to noble humans. But how do the mechanicals add understanding and enjoyment to the play? In the play there are two worlds. The first world is the court; the second is the mysterious world of fairies. The Mechanicals are used in the play to add to the audiences understanding of the play by exploring the central theme of love and its transforming power. Shakespeare shows through bottom that something ugly can turn beautiful through love. The mechanicals are also used to add to the audiences enjoyment of the play by adding humour to the play. Shakespeare uses a comic effect of names especially Bottom, as later he turns into an â€Å"ass† which is a donkey. The mechanicals also are always mixing up their words through oxymoron, malapropisms and nonsense words. The Mechanicals are the audience’s way into the play as they appeal to all people: educated, uneducated, rich and poor in the Elizabethan time. The theatre was very different in the 1600’s compared to now. During the Elizabethan time, theatres were usually outdoors and the stage was very bare. It had little scenery so the acting companies had to rely on the imaginations of their audiences. The setting had to be created through the words of the play. The words of the play had to establish what time of day it was. Also men had to play women parts as it was judged to be inappropriate for a woman to undertake such a role so men for that reason were hired to act in the female roles. Consequently, in â€Å"A Midsummer’s Night Dream† Thisbe who is a woman would have to be played as a man, which would bring humour to the audience. In the time of William Shakespeare there was a strong belief in the existence of the supernatural. The Elizabethan Period and the academic era of the Renaissance introduced English persecution of Elizabethan Witches and Witchcraft. Ironically, this period of great learning brought with it a renewed belief in the supernatural including a belief in the powers of witchcraft, witches and witch hunts. In â€Å"A Midsummer’s Night Dream† the supernatural is a recurring part in the play. The Mechanicals add understanding to the play by bringing the two worlds of the play together. In â€Å"A Midsummer’s Night Dream† there are four main plots: The lovers, the fairies, the Mechanicals and the Duke and Duchess. The Mechanicals bring together the palace and the woods as they use both settings. They use the palace to perform their play and the woods to practise there. The mechanicals fit perfectly into the structure of the play. The higher class which are the nobles, the lower class, which are the mechanicals and the supernatural world, which are the fairies. The Mechanicals bring together the world of law, order and reason by being unsystematic. They do this by contrasting themselves to the nobles. In these quotations they show the nobles law, order and reason. My Gracious Lord[Theseus] Shows the characters’ respect for Theseus, also shows that Theseus has power and embodies Athens and the law. Theseus also shows that Athens is a land of law and order. Either to die the death or abjure forever the society of me. This line shows the rigidity of the Athenian law. Because Hermia’s father does not approve of her love, she must listen to him to not marry him, or to face the consequences. On the other hand the Mechanicals are not as educated as the aristocratic characters. In this quotation it shows a clear contrast between the nobles and the Mechanicals. What is Pyramus? A lover or a tyrant [Bottom] I. i. 17 This quotation shows the lack of education and shows typical characters for a male lead in the theatre. It shows the lack of education, as this play would have been read in schools, at that time if they were educated. The mechanicals also make the audience understand some of their characteristics I am to entreat you, request, you and desire you to con them by tomorrow night [Quince] L. i. 78-80 This quotation tells the audience that the Mechanicals are a little bit unreliable.

Using the JSON Gem in Ruby Its easy to jump into parsing and generating JSON in Ruby with the json gem. It provides an API for parsing JSON from text as well as generating JSON text from arbitrary Ruby objects. Its easily the most used JSON library in Ruby. Installing the JSON Gem On Ruby 1.8.7, youll need to install a gem. However, in Ruby 1.9.2, the json gem is bundled with the core Ruby distribution. So, if youre using 1.9.2, youre probably all set. If youre on 1.8.7, youll need to install a gem. Before you install the JSON gem, first realize that this gem is distributed in two variants. Simply installing this gem with gem install json will install the C extension variant. This requires a C compiler to install, and may not be available or appropriate on all systems. Though if you can install this version, you should. If you cant install the C extension version, you should gem install json_pure instead. This is the same gem implemented in pure Ruby. It should run everywhere that Ruby code runs, on all platforms and on a variety of interpreters. However, its considerably slower than the C extension version. Once installed, there are a few ways to require this gem. A require json (after a prerequisite require rubygems if needed) will require whichever variant is available and will prefer the C extension variant if both are installed. A require json/pure will explicitly require the pure variant, and a require json/ext will explicitly require the C extension variant. Parsing JSON Before we start, lets define some simple JSON to parse. JSON is typically generated by web applications and can be quite daunting, with deep hierarchies that are difficult to navigate. What Is the Difference Between Sequence of Development and Rate of Development? Essay

To begin to answer the question of what is the difference between development and rate of development it is vital that we completely understand the meaning of the words. A sequence of development is the order in which the development of t6he child would happen; for example a child will sit before crawling and would then go on to walk. The rate of the development is the speed in which it would happen, for instance; by four to six months the child will have control of their head and arm movements, and by seven to nine months they should be able to sit without support and may have begun crawling. It is extremely important to remember that all children develop at different rates and that the sources or information that we receive or are told are only guidelines of the developmental rates. We are able to use these as a reference to monitor what children can or cannot do at specific stages in their lives. Although they aren’t one hundred percent accurate for each child they are stil l effective tools to help us plan to ensure they get the attention they need for areas they find challenging. The development of the physical skills of the child follows a definite sequence; to show an example would be that of a baby; when they would firstly have to learn to hold their head and upper body up before they are able to sit with only the lower back supported. However, whilst the sequences are common amongst most children, the rate in which they develop these skills are often different. It is vital to monitor a child’s sequence and rate of the development in order to determine what type of help they may or may not need in the future and to ensure they are referred to the correct people to aid in development were possible so they don’t fall too far behind. Often the child’s developmental sequence can differ between children, for example one baby’s physical development may begin with rolling over, followed by sitting up, then crawling, walking and finally running, whilst another may sit up, walk, and then running missing out rolling over and crawling. Although elements are missed from the development process, it still proceeds in what is viewed as an unexpected pattern. The rate can often differ like this too, one child being able to walk at ten months and another at sixteen, all children are different which is wh y the rate differs so frequently. With so many factors in a child’s life affecting their development, the rate and sequence of their develop it’s not surprising that the variance between each child can be so big. Everything from a childs health status to their family background can affect various stages of their development.

Piagets and Vygotskys explanation In this essay I will be outlining the main differences and similarities between Piagets and Vygotskys explanation of cognitive development in children. Cognition is the study of the thought process or mental activity by which us individuals acquire and deal with knowledge. The study of the human cognition is a vast field and there are wide varieties of topics. The two most influential theories of cognitive development are from Jean Piaget and Lev Vygotsky. Each of their theory has key aspects of cognitive development across childhood. Firstly, according to Siegler (1998), Piagets theory of cognitive development is considered the most important to emerge from the study of human development, and the most controversial theory as well, according to Beilin (1992). Piagets observations of children provide a remarkable inside for what cognitive development is supposed to be like (Siegler, 1998). He provided answers to questions regarding intelligence and how one develops their knowledge. He believed that children develop in reaction to their environment, and the rewards and punishments it provides, Piaget argued that children actively explore their worlds, and their thoughts are ultimately derived from the actions of the world. Children according to him construct their reality as they manipulate and explore their world, cognitive structures which Piaget termed schemes. A scheme is an interrelated set of memories, thoughts, or strategies which are employed to predict and understand the environment. He believed that as children grow, they develop and refine their schemes. Central to Piagets theory are two biological concept, adaption and organization. Organization refers to an individuals tendency to organize their cognitive structures or schemes into efficient systems (Lutz and Sternberg, 1999). Organization can take place independent of any interaction with the environment. He believes that children naturally begin to link schemes together, creating more organized and interrelated cognitive system. For example, infants eventually begin to link together schemes developed for reaching, grasping and sucking objects, combining these into more complex structures that can be generalized to other situations and thus further their ability to negotiate the environment. Initially they cant combine these actions, but through the process of organization they become able to do so. This brings us to the concept of adaption. Adaption involves the creation of cognitive structure or schemes through our interactions with the environment. Adaption is achieved through assimilation or accommodation (Piaget, 1952). Assimilation is the process of integrating the environment into ones current psychological structures (Lutz and Sternberg, 1999). When the child assimilates something, they mould it to fit in with their existing structures. Accommodation is the opposite process, it occurs when old schemes are adjusted to fit better fit with the demands of the environment. For example, the infant sees an object lying on the floor; they can assimilate into her experience, applying her grasping scheme. The infant then encounters another object, a smaller one this time such as a plastic token, they are then forced to accommodate to the object, altering their grasp in order to be able to pick up the token. According to Piaget (1952) there are times when we are able to assimilate most new experiences, other times we are forced to accommodate and adapt our structures to the environment and thats when we enter into a state called cognitive disequilibrium, also k nown as, cognitive conflict. Both Piaget and Vygotsky believe that development started off with cognitive conflict. The process of equilibration, continual balance, leads to the development of more efficient cognitive structures (Lutz and Sternberg, 1999). Similarly Vygotsky developed his own theory of cognitive development in children. However, he made an emphasis on the cultural context in which human development occurs. Like Piaget, Vygotsky was strongly committed to the idea that children were active explorers of their world who tested their ideas against reality, seeking to expand their knowledge. It is said that Vygotsky compares a child to an apprentice, whereas Piaget compares them to a scientist. However, unlike Piaget, who viewed children essentially as solitary figures involved in the construction of knowledge, Vygotsky believed that the childs social environment was an active force in their development, working to mould childrens growing knowledge in ways that were adaptive to the wider culture in which they grow up. Vygotskys perspective on child development is referred to as the socio-cultural view because of his emphasis on the childs culture and the social environment as forces which shape development. Vygotsky was a st rong advocate for the developmental method, unlike Piaget, who concentrated on the origins of mental processes and the transformations which they have to undergo. Vygotsky was obstinate in his belief that an individuals cognitive development was largely a social process, and not an individualistic construction as Piaget believed. Also unlike Piaget, Vygotsky focused on interactions with parents, siblings, peers, and the wider culture, who were more highly skilled than the child. And he believed that through the interaction with the child and through the instruction and assistance they provided, the childs cognitive development would be promoted. He believed that learning begins as an inter-personal activity. Whereby, gradually the learner is able to perform independently. Also his theory included the scaffolding learning, where the support is provided by teacher on specific task. It allows the learner to perform at a higher level. At any given point in the learning process, there is a difference between the level achieved when assisted and when alone, also known as the Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD). The scaffolding learning of Vygotskys method is still being used in this century because all over primary schools, children are still being assisted; however when they progress unto a stage where they feel co mfortable in their ability, the teacher or individual with higher knowledge gradually withdraws support according to process. He also believed that children acquire tools invented by society to support thinking in children, also known as the cultural tools, for example calculators, books and computers. Similarly to Piaget, Vygotsky believed that childrens egocentric speech was a part of their cognitive development. However, the two have different perspectives on how they viewed the purpose of egocentric speech. Piagets Egocentric speech suggests that the childs self centred and unable to consider the point of view of others. Whereas, Vygotskys Egocentric speech is seen as a transition between the childrens learning language in a social communicative context and attempting to internalize it as a private inner thought. Alongside that Piaget developed stages of child development through clinical methods because he felt development precedes learning. The stages of cognitive development are, the sensori-motor period (0-2 years) where children achieve represential thought, the pre-operational period (2-7 years) childrens reasoning is often illogical, after is the concrete operational period (7-11 years), children are able to reason about current, concrete situations, lastly the formal op erations stage (11-15) where children can reason about hypothetical situations. Piaget believed that the pre-operational stage is a time during early childhood when children start to reason, build concepts, and lay the foundation for concrete operations. Operations are initialized sets of actions that allow the child to do mentally what was done physically before. (Santrock, 2003). Piaget believed that illogical reasoning was due to: Animism, lack of reversibility, Egocentrism and Centration. Unlike Piaget, Vygotsky paid little attention to the role of the individual. He did not focus on the stages of development or the ages at which these might occur. However, like Piaget he did see the child as an active participant in learning rather than a passive recipient of information from other people. Both these theories share ideas about how a child starts to develop their cognitive skills. But they both understand it differently. The nature of Piagets investigations contrasts with the cultural-historical approach of Vygotskys research. Piaget is more concerned with the development of universal processes for the validation of knowledge, and Vygotsky is more focused on psycho-socio-historical genesis and its interpretations. Although these psychologists have received a lot of critics about which aspect of development they put more emphasis in, they have still contributed to our understanding of child cognitive development. It is only through their research and theory that others are able to progress onto finding out further details about how a childs mentality develops. Vygotsky and Piaget are often presented as opposites. However, a careful read of their theories reveals that they are not as dissimilar as they are presented to be (DeVries; Matusov Hayes, 2000).

The stories of the dog and the bird layer the theme to help represent Louisa's life, who in turn represents the Eighteenth century woman of society. Louisa's animals and their relationship to her suitor are further links between her and her pets. The suitor brings out different traits than the norm in both the animals and the woman of this story. The man's influence is seen as disruptive. Many people now travel to share organizational and business experience, study abroad to come back home, many people travel just to see and study cultural background of other countries, some of them come to other countries with peace missions. Unfortunately, political and economical conditions in many countries of the world make many people move abroad as immigrants or refugees. But, regardless of the travel purposes, the notions of cultural contact and cultural shock are relevant for all categories of travelers. (Hoerder) Before examining this phenomenon it’s necessary to give a strict definition of it. At first, it’s necessary to mention that there are some titles to define this phenomenon: â€Å"cross cultural relations†, â€Å"between society culture-contact†, â€Å"cross-cultural interaction† etc. Here is the definition of this phenomenon provided by Bochner: â€Å"between society culture-contact refers to individuals who travel beyond their countries of origin for a particular purpose and for a specified period of time, and the relationships they establish with members of the host society†. (1986, p. 23) There are also some necessary terms used to describe these relations, for instance â€Å"sojourner†. This term is used to refer to â€Å"culture travellers, indicating that they are temporary visitors intending to return home after achieving their aims†. (1986, p. 33) On the contrary, people of the visited society are called â€Å"host-society members†. It’s evident that changing society background in any case demands some contact on personal level, when the representatives of various societies interact. From the part of sojourner it demands much effort to integrate into unusual social and cultural patterns. This may cause stress, especially in the case of immediate and unexpected transition, and this condition is defined by the specialists as â€Å"culture shock†. (Bochner) Cultural identity conflicts are usually called intractable, and thus they are not possible to be resolved through the traditional approaches. The frames of the individual identity are extremely influenced by the cultural identity and cultural surrounding. The differences in culture often become the ground for the cultural conflict, as the difference in cultural ideas and preferences may be taken by the other side as not simply an outrageous idea, but ridiculous and unreal understanding of the world. For the better cultural communication it may be suggested, that the attitudes towards other cultures should be more tolerate. The cultural ideas and beliefs expressed by the representatives of the other culture should not be taken as unreal or unacceptable. Differences in culture between people will always exist, and thus for the more effective communication it is important to understand and accept the significance of the traditions, which are valued by the other culture, as well as try to better explain the traditions into which the newcomer would wish to assimilate. However, and what is more important, it is not allowed to break the cultural identity of the person; the difference in cultural views does not mean they are wrong. The issue of cultural identity was always urgent, and with the growing opportunities for migration, this issue will not soon lose the necessity of being discussed. However, it is important to understand one thing in relation to cultural conflicts: the differences between cultures should not and won’t be erased; they should be treated with tolerance. There are some concepts and approaches used to investigate the nature of this phenomenon. They are as follows: regional comparison, holocultural analysis, controlled comparison, and coding. Regional comparison was worked out by Driver and Kroeber. This approach lies in determination of cultural classification and then making assumptions about the processes of interconnection in the limits of one region of culture. Jainism in Early India essays During the fifth and sixth centuries B.C.E. many new religions and philosophies sprang up in India that appealed to the interests of new social classes. Among the most influential of these new religions was Jainism. Jainism had strong foundations, and formed into a unique and influential religion, but many factors might explain why it never became as successful as Hinduism or Buddhism. Vardhamana Mahavira was a great teacher of Jainism who helped it become popular. Legend has it that he spent twelve years in the Ganges Valley, after which he gained enlightenment and many disciples. These disciples referred to him as Jina (the conqueror), and to themselves as Jains. Jains believed that everything in the universe possessed a soul, and could experience physical and psychological suffering. Only by purification from selfish behavior could souls gain release from their imprisonment, shed their karma, and reach the eternal state of bliss. The way that the people underwent purification was by observing the law of ahimsa, or nonviolence to other living things or their souls. Jain monks went to extremes observing this law, and avoiding all the tiny souls that surrounded them. Jainism represented an attractive alternative to the traditional sacrificial cults of early India. Jainist values and ethics had significant social implications. If all these souls participated in the ultimate reality of the world, social hierarchies made no sense. The Jains did not recognize these classes of human beings based on caste or jati. Because of this, their faith became popular especially among members of lower castes who did not command much respect in the traditional social order, including merchants, scholars, and literary figures. Not many people actually think about how it is run or what all is involved in running a building filled with young minds. There is a climate in a school that involves, the community, students, and the school staff. It includes a physical environment, where a strong leadership guides the instructional programs, time is spent on task, there are high expectations that are fostered by all, expectations are clearly defined, there is a frequent monitoring and feedback, communication, trust, rewards, and a sense of community. If all of these could be graded, what would you grade the school you come from? Students from government classes in my school, Whitehall High, did such a thing. The grades were averaged by using the grading scale. Each did a class grade and an individual gr ade. My individual grade was tallied by this grading scale: A= 4.0 A- =3.7 B+ =3.3 B =3.0 B- =2.7 C+ =2.3 C =2.0 C- =1.7 D+ =1.3 D =1.0 D- =.7 and an E/F= .0. My totally GPA was 3.6. I graded category number one, physical environment with an A- because to get a grade of a full A, the school needs to be a safe and orderly atmosphere where the students and staff feel proud. Whitehall is safe place, although some of the students I do not trust. This comes with every school though and the school does punish them correctly. An Observation of Clients Suffering from Common Mental Disorders and the Legal Implications of Sharing Patient Information In the past week, I observed two clients who were suffering from common mental disorders although the development of the condition was very different especially because of the existing differences in social environment. The clients had a behavioral engagement group session. Sharing of patient information without their consent is illegal as per the HIPAA guidelines although provision of a general focus and understanding is accepted without exposing the privacy of the clients. Client description The first client was a thirteen-year-old male child who was having an oppositional defiant disorder. This was confirmed after a series of tests. The client was very argumentative and got easily annoyed even for no good reason. The client had not sought any prior medical attention since the situation was largely assumed by parents who thought that it was just a stage before escalating where the client at times was unable to control his action. The second client that I observed was a 15-year-old male who had serious challenges regarding her ability to concentrate. The client could not focus and pay attention for a continuous ten minutes. This situation was very worrying especially his school life where his grades were getting poor and there was no way that even teachers and his parents could do to change the trend. The client was diagnosed with attention deficit disorder (McGillivray Evert, 2014). DSM-5 The DSM-5 highlights that for an individual to be diagnosed with mental disorder condition, they must have had emotional and behavioral symptoms that have lasted for a period of at least six months. This requirement was valid in this case considering the fact that the clients had the condition for years. The condition of their mental disorders were moderate since the symptoms used to occur both at home and at school (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). Legal implications The legal issues in both cases are based on ensuring that patient information is held with privacy and high level of confidentiality to ensure that the privacy of each patient is maintained. This enhances professional relationship between the client and the counselor. The client must consent to the treatment intervention suggested. This entails informed consent that is a serious aspect in delivery of healthcare (Wheeler, 2014).
